If you pay $12k you can get a special software package that allows you to write your own interfaces. We can request all kinds of custom development. We were told from the beginning that the system would be highly customizable to our business. But in reality, everything they try to do takes 3x as many steps - Not an exaggeration. You'd think they would love the accountability. There isn't time to have to completely recreate the wheel on a single issue when all it takes is pulling it out and reposting. We're not a huge company but we do a ton of warehousing and work with a lot of fulfillment and 2-tier distribution customers. Because we're the customer, and that's how we work. Every single manager has called GSS with an issue to get resolved because of something related to this setup and each time the rep has responded, "Why would you want to do that?". However, when you're used to a job shop system like E2 by Shoptech, where they allow you to post and unpost before you finalize the year, it's a major pain. Some people like this because of accountability. There is no chance to unpost, fix the mistake, and repost. If there's human error on a batch you post whether it's customer invoicing or something on the AR/AP side, it's done. When something gets processed, it moves to history and CAN NOT BE TOUCHED.

However, the biggest hiccup comes from the way they archive everything. Yes, their support has been wonderful for the most part whenever we have a technical issue/glitch. While I can't speak much to the abilities of MSQL vs PSQL, I can say that working with Global Shop Solutions has been a headache.

There is not as many tools such as Dashboards, and the ones you use have to go obdc.Īll in all we would not switch from Pervasive because it is and excellent transactional database that is very reliable. Initially that was a problem but it may be resolved now. You can not activate it more then once unless you deactivate it and this is more difficult when a computer crashes and you can't deactivate. Pervasive the company, leaves some things to be desired. Another consideration is if you are in a virtual hosting enviroment as an ISV, each company data is segragated as opposed to being in one database which is very important for security. In our situation, we also sell to CPA's who do dozens of different businesses so it is easy to segregate data, backup, etc. One other note: Each data file is a file on the computer as opposed to 1 large sql database.

Obviously they had to move it to MSSQL when they purchased the company. It's also due to the unique language we use, UnipaaS.Īs a note, Microsofts accounting product Great Plains Dynamics was developed and ran for years with Pervasives Btrieve. We do mid market accoutning software () and the file and record locking works very well. You can have a 300 user system and have the client installed on 1000 computers, and would be limited to 300 at any one time. We are now using their new V11 and basically have zero problems, There server version 5+ users is based on concurent licenses and each computer attached is considered a client. We have been using Pervasive in thousands of customers since 1985. If you already have a MS-SQL Server around doing something else and can load your new app's database into it, it will make your life easier. I agree with Scott that your app doesn't look very big, and Pervasive will probably be fine. If you see a lot of growth in the near future, MS-SQL will probably scale better. Most Perviasive based apps I've seen just sit on one Server with a small number of users, but that's just my experience. If you do choose an MS-SQL based app, try to find out if SQL transactions are handled by a middleware service as opposed to a SQL client on every desktop. Your TCO with Pervasive will probably be lower. That's probably the major reason a vendor might choose Pervasive. If an MS-SQL based app requires a SQL Client at every desk, that will get very expensive in a hurry. But, Pervasive has been around a long, long time and a lot of vertical market systems use it, so that must say something for it's suitability. Sorry, but I don't have any familiarity with that app.
